What to do with a Mountain of scraps - Patchwork clothing!

I had been looking at my mountain of fabric scraps: each piece too small to even make a skirt or a sleeveless top. What could I do with them without throwing them out and thus contribute to the landfill? My answer: Patchwork clothing!

I looked through Pinterest for inspirations. There are some really cool patchwork ideas for jackets, dresses, pants and skirts:
H&M patchwork jacket - how awesome and fun it would be to wear this to work!
A Steampunk patchwork skirt
This is lovely and so boho - but unfortunately not age appropriate for me....
This is really lovely and unique and I LOVE sweater dresses!
These patchwork clothing are truly inspirational. I now need to go to my scrap box and refashion pile to see what I have to start my patchwork project.

  1. Ummm . . .those pants are fun no matter what your age. Rock them like a teenager or a groovy granny! Who wouldn't have fun wearing them?

    1. It's true. We should all wear garments that make us happy!

  2. I like the jacket very much as well. The challenge for me is to find fabric scraps that are of similar weight and look good next to each other.

  3. Very good ideas - I'd have to learn to make patchwork before I could start on a garment, though - haha - but I love making use of scraps of fabric for small projects. This way you could make a large project instead.

    1. Thanks Jenny! I am by no means a quilter! I am just clumsily sewing together bits of scraps into a larger piece to see how I can use it for a garment.

  4. I love these ideas - they are all wonderful garments, and with the exception of the jeans, don't look crafty at all. I keep all my knit scraps because I too always (one day, don't have enough scraps yet), want a knit scrap dress :) Can't wait to see what you make with your scraps.

    1. Thanks Sarah Liz! I love the inspiration garments because they were probably all designed to be colour coordinated. I on the other hand, will have to contend with whatever I can find in my scrap box.
