I washed and tumble dried the fabric and found that it was a bit thin. To avoid showing my panty lines, I decided to underline the entire pair of shorts with a cream cotton blend broadcloth. I also added back pockets to the shorts (not included in the pattern). However, I made an error and the pockets are too low. Oh well! One can't really tell unless I put my hand in my pocket. The floral pattern disguises the pockets quite nicely.

The shorts are a little snug due to the underlining. I do plan to lose a few pounds before July. But I think I'll actually tweak the pattern a bit and add 2cm to the width of each pant leg next time.
I can't wait to wear this for the Me Made may 2015 challenge!
They are so cute - I wouldn't worry too much about the pockets - I've often seen them that low in RTW. They disappear in the fabric in any case. I always imagined this pattern to be really baggy, but these look great :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah Liz! The pattern was loose fitting before since I chose size M according to the measurements on the envelope. However, after making the first pair and found them to be too loose, I narrowed the shorts down to size S and they fit better on me. The fabrics make a difference too. The linen pair stretched a bit after I wore them but these underlined cotton ones probably won't stretch much.
DeleteI really like these too! Clever additions of the pockets and underlining. I think the pockets look great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa! I am glad that the pattern of the fabric disguises the misplacement of the pockets!
DeleteA very cute pair of shorts, very summery. The fit looks great and I can barely see the pockets..
ReplyDeleteThanks KathyS! I hope I will be able to wear it frequently this summer!
